The Global Leadership Development Programme (GLDP) is ICLIF’s flagship leadership programme. Targeted at CEOs and high potential senior executives from Malaysia and the region, the GLDP is an extraordinary and unique four-week learning experience spread over a span of five months.

Designed in partnership with world-renowned leadership and executive development consultants, initially Towers Perrin and now Linkage Asia, the GLDP aims to provide participants with an unsurpassed opportunity to discuss current leadership and management issues with the brightest academic minds and leading industry practitioners so as to enable participants to apply what they learned when they return to their offices.

The GLDP is designed to strengthen the ability of executives of private and public sector organisations in Malaysia and the region to hone their skills and competencies so that the organisations they lead are competitive in the ever-changing domestic, regional and global environment. Executives will be given an opportunity to learn from current and former executives who can share best practices in key areas related to the unique, Asian-focused ICLIF Breakthrough Leadership Model©.

  The programme is designed to help participants develop:

  • Competencies that enable them to make their organisations more competitive and successful;
  • Skills that engender an organisational culture focused on excellence and a spirit of creativity and innovation;
  • Best practices of regional and global business leaders from diverse sectors and geographical jurisdictions;
  • Interpersonal skills needed to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders on diverse and often complex business issues.
  • An understanding of global trends that are impacting business performance and organizational effectiveness.

ICLIF is partnered with several world-renowned learning institutions and consultants to deliver its programmes.
This ensures an outstanding learning experience for GLDP participants. Faculty for the GLDP come from: Linkage Asia, The Peter F. Ducker Graduate School of Management-Claremont Graduate University, Marshall School of Business-University of Southern California, Harvard Business School, Stanford Graduate School of Business, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT/Sloan), University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and University of California at Berkeley (UC Berkeley).
Since each programme is customised to meet the needs of a broad range of participants, a detailed programme is provided to GLDP participants upon registration for their particular session.

  Here’s what some of our past participants have to say about the GLDP:

There are two sessions of the GLDP each year - GLDP (Summer) and GLDP (Fall). Each consists of three parts:

  Part 1 looks at the “Leader in You” and administers psychometric tests that help to create self-awareness of leadership competencies and skills, and related strengths and gaps that individual leaders may need to address. The programme takes place in Malaysia.

Part 2 is a two-part programme with the first takes place in Kuala Lumpur and focuses on leaders and their organisations. The programme introduces participants to leadership competencies such as leadership communications, coaching and mentoring, innovation, negotiation, and leading and managing change.

The second part is a one-week Business Immersion Visit to China. This is a new initiative undertaken by ICLIF in response to recommendations coming from its Alumni and members of the Board of Directors. It will provide Asian insights that are becoming a unique feature of ICLIF programmes effective Fall 2008. The visit is particularly opportune as China prepares itself for the major undertaking of the Olympic Games and when pundits are mulling over the possible impact of the faltering US economy on China’s future growth and development. Leaders in Malaysia and the region will be able to have a closer look at what experts on China inside the country are thinking about future prospects, opportunities and challenges.

Part 3 is a highly focused two-week study-trip to the USA. With visits to leading business schools and academic institutions, the programme covers organisational excellence, talent management, governance, corporate social responsibility and other subjects and topical issues of interest and concern to leaders. The three-part GLDP will run over a five-month period with intervals between each for leaders to put into practice in the workplace their newly acquired knowledge and skills.
